You simply apply SandMend to your lawn and/or garden. Use a hose end applicator designed for liquids.
After you have applied SandMend, water your garden or lawn lightly, a minute or two to wash it into the soil. SandMend can be applied where plants are growing, and although it will not harm your plants it is best to wash it off of the plants into the soil where the benefits can occur.
Repeating applications of SandMend can result in accumulated improvements to your sandy soil. You can repeat applications every 4 to 6 weeks if desired.
Unlike other liquid fertilizers and amendments that give you a dilution amount or setting on a sprayer, SandMend is applied based on the size of the area you would like to treat. Many hose end applicators come with general instructions for applying other fertilizers. Disregard the instructions that come with the sprayer when applying SandMend.
Due to the porous nature of sandy soil a minimum amount of additional water is required to get it into the soil. SandMend will not harm plants but after you apply it water the are just long enough to wash any residual product off of the foliage so that it gets into the soil where the benefits occur.
Sandy soil has the advantage of having good water flow. However it typically has poor body, poor nutrient holding capacity and poor water holding capacity. Mix ample amounts of organic matter into your sandy soil preferably during the off growing season whenever possible. For areas that you can’t mix your organic matter into the soil such as lawns and perennial gardens, top dress the areas with organic matter. Doing this during the off season allows the microbes to focus on breaking the organic matter down and load the soil with organic matter without taking energy away from your plants.
First, you will need a hose end applicator designed to measure and apply liquids. Spray applicators that are designed to dissolve powders (like Miracle Gro) will not evenly distribute liquids.
Applicators that are designed for liquids are available at many of the big box hardware stores, many local hardware stores and many nurseries. You can also order online from internet retailers such as Amazon.com.
First determine the area you need to treat. Then simply reference the recommended application amount listed on the product label. All our recommended application amounts are stated in ounces of product per 100 sq. ft. of treatment area. You can use a measuring cup or use an applicator bottle that has measurements marked on it.
Get an approximate measurement of the area to be treated. An easy way to approximate the square footage is to pace off the yard. One walking step of an adult is generally considered to be approximately 3 feet. Pace off the length of the area and then the width of the area that you would like to amend. Most yards have strange curves and separate areas, we just need an estimate so pace to the furthest point. Multiplying the number of paces by 3 will give you total length and width in feet. Multiplying the width in feet times the length in feet will give you the total sq. footage. (L x W = total sq. ft.) This will be a rough approximation but adequate for our products.
Use your hose end applicator bottle to measure the product or pour the measured amount of product from your measuring cup into your hose end applicator bottle. Only use a hose end sprayer designed for liquids. Applicators designed to dissolve powders will not provide an even application with our products. The liquid applicators apply the product at a constant rate and the bottle will empty as you apply it.
For most application we generally fill the remainder of the bottle to increase the volume enough to cover the measured area. The water is only to increase the volume enough to get the product evenly distributed over the area. If you are only applying a few ounces of product it can be hard to get the sprayer to siphon out that small an amount without adding water for volume. The instructions for many hose end sprayers will say not to add water at this point. This is one of the areas that we deviate from their instructions. Because we measure based on square footage instead of dilution the amount of water is not important.
Spray evenly over the measured area until applicator bottle is empty. Some hose end sprayers have an adjustable dial for dilution. Set the dial to 1 oz. and spray evenly over the area until the hose end bottle is empty. Keep an eye on the amount left in the bottle as you spray to make sure you are applying the product evenly. To get an idea of how fast to walk you can fill the applicator with water and see how fast it empties as you walk.
Spray area with water or turn sprinklers on for a few minutes to wash product into the soil. All of our products can be sprayed directly on lawns, on and around garden plants, on or around shrubs and trees or directly on bare soil. When applying to areas that are planted apply as close to the soil as possible. Our products will not harm the plants but if left on the leaves will not help the soil. Rinse it off of the plants with additional water. Our products can be applied over the top of ground cover or compost, but just like with planted area water long enough after applying to wash off ground cover or compost and into the soil.
SandMend is an inexpensive liquid amendment that is easy to apply directly to your garden, your lawn or around your trees and shrubs.
A single application will provide improvement to your soil but depending upon how sandy your soil is we recommend applying SandMend up to 5 or 6 times the first year of use for more extreme cases. After that apply SandMend two or three times each year (spring, summer and fall).
The sandy particles in your soil do not have the ability to hold nutrients. As microbes process old plant residue they can leave your sandy soil with the ability to hold nutrient and to hang onto more water reducing nutrients from being leached from the soil.
SandMend can help with restructuring your sandy soil that can give a firmer foundation for plant root growth.
SandMend can be applied when temperatures are hot or cool. It is best applied during dry days when possible.
Sandy soils typically do not have the right environment to support soil microbial activity that are needed to bind soil particles together for a superior soil structure which can lead to stronger plant growth. SoilMend helps improve the environment of the soil so that it can continually work support a large population of soil microbes that help in the restructuring process. This in turn helps support more healthy robust plant growth.
SandMend is safe for pets and kids when it is applied as directed. Apply SandMend to your garden or lawn using a hose end applicator and then briefly wash it into the soil after each application with your sprinklers.
SandMend can be applied any time of year even in hot and cool temperatures. It can be advantageous to apply SandMend in the fall or early spring when moisture in the ground is not as likely to evaporate as it might during hot summer days.
Apply when normal daytime temperatures are above 45° F. Microbial activity will go in and out of dormancy as the temperatures drop below 40° F and become active again above that temperature.
SandMend can be applied even in hot temperatures and will still help improve the soil. We recommend applying it during the cooler part of the day, typically mornings are best. Summer heat can get to a point that it stresses grass and other plants even though biological activity is increasing and soil conditions are improving.
You should keep your garden and lawn adequately watered so the grass and plants gets a sufficient amount of water and there is enough moisture for any seeds you plant to germinate.
You should avoid too much water because it can leach nutrients out of the soil.
SandMend helps improve the availability and efficiency of your fertilizer. Typically you can reduce the amount of fertilizer you apply sometimes by up to 50% especially if you mulch your grass and dig your old plant matter back into the soil after each season.
Mulching your grass clippings can help reduce the amount of additional fertilizer you use on your lawn. It can return up to 2 lbs. of nitrogen per 100 sq. ft. over the course of a year and it is organic and more balanced than chemical fertilizers without putting immediate stress on your lawn.

Sandy soil tends to lean towards acidic and microbial activity will help drive soil pH toward neutral. As the environment of your sandy soil improves, higher microbial activity can occur and the higher this activity the harder the soil is pushed toward neutral.

Application rates less the recommended rates will diminish the effectiveness of PetiGreen and are not recommended.
Even though PetiGreen will not harm your plants it works in the soil so if you spray it on your flowers, vegetables, shrubs, trees, etc. makes sure you rinse it off of the plants so it gets into the soil where it can go to work to improve the soil.
In colder climates the microbial population will expand until the cold weather hits and then it will go dormant. In the spring that expanded population will come out of dormancy and pick up right where it left off. Then just continue with the program to improve the soil and expand the microbial population even more until your lawn is completely protected from new dog urine spots.
With all these benefits, until the roots are established into the soil where they are protected from urine they are very susceptible to damage. PetiGreen will help quicken the root establishment process, but we advise trying to remove the dog from the new lawn if possible. Until the roots are well established you will see new urine spots.

PetiGreen increases the soils ability to process nitrogen in pet urine which contains an excessive amount of nitrogen. By adding fertilizer it will increase the amount of nitrogen the microbes in the soil needs to process. It is nitrogen overload that kills the lawn and causes the dog urine spots to form.
Lawns that have been heavily fertilizing over the years can also be high in nitrogen. These lawns tend to have more severe urine damage where the dogs go and it can take much, much longer to process all that extra nitrogen before the soil improves enough to protect against new spots. It is best in areas like these to keep the dog off the area if possible, to reseed after applying PetiGreen and letting the new grass get well established. These soils can take months before they come around.
When there is an excess of nitrogen added to the soil, even when there are no pets, nitrates can build up and diminish microbial activity which impacts lawn and plant growth. By cutting back on nitrogen use, using it sparingly and only when needed, you can actually achieve a greener, healthier lawn.
If you have fertilized already apply PetiGreen as soon as possible so it can start processing the fertilizer and begin to reduce the nitrogen overload in the soil.
It takes quite a bit of time for soil microbes to build to a population large enough to prevent new urine spots but as this population is growing a lot of nitrogen can be processed so that new grass seed will grow. You’ll still get new spots but this will help keep your lawn looking greener until the microbes can prevent the new spots altogether.
Do not dilute or mix products together and try to store them as the microbes may become active and react in the storage container and may leak or break the container.
Do not mix any HumicGreen products with other brands of products.
An example of a normal application covering 2400 sq. ft. would typically be to use 7 ounces of product and add some water to the product in the applicator. You could add 12 ounces of water or 20 ounces of water and it would not make a difference as long as you make sure it is all applied evenly over the 2400 sq. ft. area so that all 7 ounces of product are applied to the lawn.
Fertilizer is the food your plants need but it does nothing to improve your soil or improve the ability of your soil to process it for storage consumption by your plants.
You might think of it like how you would eat a walnut. A walnut is a food you can enjoy but you can only eat it when you crack open the shell to get to the nut. ClayMend works in a similar way of cracking the shell of fertilizer so the plant can get to the nutrients they need.
